- Abraham Lincoln -
When the idea of creating Running Iron Whiskey was born, we had one vision – a true and honest Montana whiskey. And so, every Running Iron Whiskey ingredient is from Montana – nowhere else. Our premium hard wheat was grown near Three Forks on the renowned Wheat Montana Farms. The mash bill is 100% Montana wheat, all grown in Big Sky Country. We believe authenticity is important.
Originally milled, mashed, fermented and aged at the oldest post-prohibition whiskey distillery in Montana, this product did something all good whiskies do. It was given time to rest and mature. Running Iron’s color, flavor and character show it has been aged through all the rugged seasons and conditions that Montana has to offer. It is now straight whiskey.
To make quality whiskey you also need pure water, and Montana has some of the best water on Earth. The winter snowpack provides us with clean streams (full of trout by the way) and rich aquifers. Water from Montana is hard, rich with calcium and other minerals, which helps create a fullness to the whiskey that is now Running Iron.
Thus, Running Iron Whiskey represents and brings forward to those who drink it some of the best of Abraham Lincoln’s favorite state – the land, the water and the air.
Montana is the Treasure State. And while many think that references the abundance of beauty and natural resources, Montana’s real treasure, its true sense of worth, is the people who make this great place their home.
We are still a state with more cattle than people, and starting with the brands on the inside back label of our bottle, Running Iron Whiskey more than anything strives to represent the people of Montana by being an authentic product of our great state. These brands are real ranch brands of friends and family across the state.
We are a state where jeans, boots and a cowboy hat are appropriate any place and for any occasion. A state where people still waive or lift their fingers while driving past another truck. Montanans are a self-reliant people with a strong work ethic. Workdays are long and hard. And nothing is more important than family. Running Iron is designed to honor and reflect those values.
Every part of making Running Iron Whiskey is from Montana. The hard white wheat was grown on the famous Wheat Montana Farms near Three Forks. The mash bill is 100% Montana wheat. Not one kernel of grain from anywhere other than what was grown in Big Sky country. And we think that authenticity is important.
So with a great base of all Montana grain the process of making the whiskey began. Originally milled, mashed, fermented and aged at the oldest post-prohibition whiskey distillery in Montana, this product did something really special. It sat. People come from all around the world to rest and relax in Montana, and Running Iron Whiskey did just that it. And sat, and sat some more. This product aged for years through all the seasons that Montana can offer. It is now straight whiskey.
To make good whiskey you also need good water, and Montana has some of the best water on Earth. The run-off from the snowpack provides us with clean streams (full of trout by the way) and rich aquifers. Water from Montana is hard, rich with calcium. While that hard water is rough on our dishwashers and showerheads it helps create a fullness to the whiskey that is now Running Iron.
So Running Iron represents and brings forward to those who drink it some of the best of Abraham Lincoln’s favorite state – the land, the water and the air.
